The proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) will extend the free trade and investor rights policies of NAFTA to the southern tip of South America and the Caribbean. It is being negotiated in secret without input from labor, environmental, or human rights organizations and, barring citizen unrest, will be implemented by no later than 2005.
